12th Annual Delray Reads Day

The Delray Beach Campaign for Grade-Level Reading invites you

It’s more important than ever to promote the importance of early literacy and providing access to high quality books.

Twelve Years Running

Delray Reads Day has sparked a community-wide movement around the importance of early literacy. We address the learning loss facing children across Delray Beach due to COVID-19 and the disproportionate impact the pandemic has had on underserved children. We endeavor to promote reading and raise funds to provide new books for every child attending a Delray Beach Elementary School in pre-K, Kindergarten, and first grade on their first day of school.

Celebrating 18 Years

Jumpstart’s Read for the Record® brings together millions of adults and children around the world each year to read the same book on the same day in order to raise awareness about the critical importance of early literacy. Sharing high-quality picture books with young children is at the core of Jumpstart’s mission. Each year, Jumpstart selects a campaign book that fosters language and social-emotional development, honors the diversity in our world, has a strong narrative, and appeals to young children.

This year, Jumpstart is celebrating their 18th anniversary of Read for the Record® on Thursday, October 26, 2023. Click here for more information.

Featured Book

Nigel and the Moon

Last year’s (2022) book selection, published by HarperCollins, was Nigel and the Moon written by Antwan Eady and illustrated by Gracey Zhang.

Nigel and the Moon is about a young boy who dreams big, but is too scared to share his dreams with the world. Instead, every night he tells his dream of becoming an astronaut, dancer, and superhero to the moon. As his class moves through career week, Nigel’s community helps him build up confidence in who he is. This book encourages children to celebrate where they come from, who they are, and who they want to be.

Together, we will honor the diversity in our world, celebrate pride in where we come from, and uplift the essential workers in our communities. That’s why Jumpstart emphasizes selecting high-quality books with characters that reflect the diversity of our world.
