12th Annual Delray Reads Day

The Delray Beach Campaign for Grade-Level Reading invites you
It’s more important than ever to promote the importance of early literacy and providing access to high quality books.
Twelve Years Running
Delray Reads Day has sparked a community-wide movement around the importance of early literacy. We address the learning loss facing children across Delray Beach due to COVID-19 and the disproportionate impact the pandemic has had on underserved children. We endeavor to promote reading and raise funds to provide new books for every child attending a Delray Beach Elementary School in pre-K, Kindergarten, and first grade on their first day of school.
Celebrating 18 Years
Jumpstart’s Read for the Record® brings together millions of adults and children around the world each year to read the same book on the same day in order to raise awareness about the critical importance of early literacy. Sharing high-quality picture books with young children is at the core of Jumpstart’s mission. Each year, Jumpstart selects a campaign book that fosters language and social-emotional development, honors the diversity in our world, has a strong narrative, and appeals to young children.
This year, Jumpstart is celebrating their 18th anniversary of Read for the Record® on Thursday, October 26, 2023. Click here for more information.
With Lots of Love
This year’s selection is With Lots of Love written by Jenny Torres Sanchez and illustrated by André Ceolin.
With Lots of Love is a story about a girl who has moved to the United States from her home in Central America, away from everything she leaves behind and longs for—especially her Abuela. Rocio does her best to adjust to a new way of living, but there are many things she misses from her old life—Abuela’s cooking, Abuela’s piñata creations, Abuela’s warm hugs, and of course, Abuela herself most of all. But Abuela finds a way to send Rocio something special just in time for her birthday—a gift wrapped with lots of love—and that fills Rocio to the brim.
Jenny Torres Sanchez is a full-time writer and former English teacher. She was born in Brooklyn, New York, but has lived on the border of two worlds her whole life.
